Hi!

My name is Clare and I am from South Africa!

I have been living, teaching, and learning in South Korea for the past 8 years, with my partner Derek Lyndes and fluffy dog Mishka.

I am an IB PYP educator and Derek an IB MYP & DP educator.

As a couple, we are active community members who enjoy taking part in and hosting community events. Our interests expand outside of the classroom as well. We enjoy leading baking, kids engineering, fitness, ultimate frisbee, Model United Nations, and other after-school activities.

I'm courageous

One of my favorite things to do is travel. Up to now, I have visited about 26 countries, 9 of which I visited alone. Traveling is such a humbling experience to be lost in translation and dependent on the kindness of strangers in a foreign country to help you find your way.

I'm a learner

I have actively been learning inside and outside of the classroom. Upon arriving in Korea I took on the challenge of learning Hangul (Korean language) to better understand my students. Through community interactions, I learned to play ultimate frisbee and practiced speaking Korean. Through travel, I discovered a love for photography and for the past 8 years I have sought out numerous ways to improve my teaching practice in the classroom.

I am an inquirer

I have always had a curious mind and love finding out how things work, how to make them work better, and solving-problems.

I'm open-minded

Trying new things and different perspectives.

I'm reflective

I am continuously reflecting on my actions, lessons, and work. Could I have tried something different? What changes would I make if I had to do it again? What would take it to the next step?
